Céline's video diary for November: transcript - translation from French into English

Hi, my name is Céline. I’m an assistant in the east of Scotland. First of all, I’d like to talk about the welcome. It would be really good if we could be welcomed in the first and second weeks of arrival in Scotland, by the PT or someone from the department, just to make it easier in the time up to finding an apartment.

I found it quite easy to find an apartment. I looked at several sites on the internet, and I visited three or four flats. I really just wanted one with a big bedroom, and I got one on the third visit. It’s not far from my school and it’s really nice.

As regards a bank, it would be good if the school could get in touch with the bank before the FLA arrives, because it’s really difficult for an FLA to open a bank account. For example, as an EU citizen I don’t need a passport as such to get into the UK, but without one I couldn’t open an account with lots of banks. If the school got in touch and built a relationship with them it would mean that the FLA could be welcomed and recognised when they came to the bank the first time round.

I love my work – it’s the first time that I’ve taught. The kids are really nice. I would like to have more of a follow-through with the classes, seeing them at least once a week, so that I could plan my work from week-to-week and get to know them better. At my school, it’s great, because the teacher gives me next week’s topic at the end of the lesson a week before. I can get stuck into planning lots of activities for them.

My first month in Scotland has been wonderful. I was lucky enough to rent a car with some friends and drive up to the Highlands for a weekend. It’s really a nice thing to do and I’d encourage everyone to do it. Voilà!
