Background to the project

East Ayrshire Council was invited to participate in a Lingua project on behalf of the Scottish Executive Education Department.

In October 2003, with less than a week’s notice, Kay McMeekin, a Citizens of a Multilingual World Support Officer, found herself attending the initial meeting of the seven participating countries in Trondheim, Norway.

Kay was very excited to do so as the project to create teaching material for 6-10-year-olds sounded like the sort of thing she did as second nature when she was working as an MLPS tutor.

The project was co-ordinated by the national office of Lower Saxony for teacher formation and school development (NILS) in Hildesheim, Germany, a teacher training establishment. The other participants were also teacher training establishments.
