Italian Reference Grammar - Verbs

The interrogative (question form)

In spoken form, the only way to ask a question is to use the correct intonation.

A normal statement is simply turned into a question by raising the voice at the end. Note that raising the voice does not mean increasing the volume; it is an upturn in the stress pattern of the sentence which turns the statement into a question.

In written form, a question mark is put at the end of the sentence.

(Tu) guardi la televisione?                                 Do you watch television?
