Introduction

Welcome to the MFLE email update for May. We launched a new website - Confucius Classrooms - on 7 April, and we have focused on related chinese resources and ideas for you to try in the classroom. We've also added Spanish and Italian to our Reference Grammars for primary, and highlighted some of the latest news and professional development for you.

Confucius Classrooms online

The ‘online hub’ is now live with information about the programme, resources and examples of practice in Scottish schools.

National Qualifications Mandarin resources

These National Qualifications Curriculum Support resources provide listening and speaking exercises to support the teaching of Mandarin (Simplified and Traditional) at Access 3 level. The resources are available in both PDF and Word format, with the accompanying listening recordings in mp3 format.

A Chinese artist in Lakeland

The landscape of Wordsworth drawn through the eyes of Chiang Yee who was born in China in 1903 and arrived in the English Lake District in 1936. The paintings reproduced on this website are taken from ‘The Silent Traveller: A Chinese Artist in Lakeland’. The resource also contains interactive video clips demonstrating the use of a Chinese paint box.

This reference grammar contains useful information for teaching Spanish in the primary school. Includes the alphabet, verbs, nouns and time.

Exeter University beginners' German

Please note this is redirecting to University of Portsmouth website now. An online course containing 20 chapters of dialogue and exercises which are designed to give the beginner a grounding in the German language. Also provides information about life in a German-speaking country.
