A well-known hit which still has an appeal for those of us who’ve seen it for the nth time. Students are surprised how much they like this slow-paced fairytale starring the kooky Audrey Tautou as Amelie Poulain. Amelie’s over-protective and obsessive-compulsive parents have pushed her into her own little fantasy world. When eventually she starts work as a waitress in Paris’ Les Deux Moulins café (it’s really there, in the rue Lepic!), the death of 'Lady Di' leads her to the discovery of a tin box, a box that changes her life, and the lives of those around her, forever.
Many of those involved in this film have had previous or future blockbusters with their own merits in the classroom: Jeunet (Delicatessen, La Cité des Enfants Perdus); Tautou (A Very Long Engagement, A la folie, pas du tout); Kassovitz (has directed and cameo-ed in his own film La Haine); Pinon (Delicatessen).
