Before looking at the rest of Unit 1, you and your team should:
- Identify a target group of pupils whose progress is giving cause for concern.
- If possible, identify a member of the Support for Learning (SfL) department to work with you. (Read about the role of support staff in Guidance for school managers)
- Set a timescale for completing Units 1 and 2. The whole process can take a term or more, but the timescale is up to you.
- Download the PowerPoint presentation, below, so that it's ready for viewing.
- Download and make copies of the PDF file 'Why aren't they learning? - Points for reflection' (below)
- Arrange a time when all your project participants can view and discuss the slide show together.
- View the slide show, pausing for discussion as indicated in the presentation.
- If time permits, hand out copies of the Points for reflection, give time for reading, then discuss. If time is short, hand out the copies and set another time for discussion.
