Careers Scotland is part of a larger organisation called Skills Development Scotland, which provides career guidance and employability support to people of all ages. It aims to help individuals understand and fulfil their potential and achieve success in today’s changing labour market.
The organisation provides support to young people in school, including young people who are at risk of becoming disengaged and those who are looked after. It works with a range of partners to ensure these young people are supported in making effective choices about their future career. This is done through a range of projects, such as Activate, and through early identification of young people who will need extra support to get and keep a job, join a training scheme or move on to further education.
Careers Scotland Key Workers, Activate Advisers and other Careers Scotland Advisers provide tailored support to these young people, overseeing and supporting their progress towards the job market. They also work with parents and carers, as they are an important influence on the choices young people make. Careers Scotland can also support parents directly if they are looking to find work, move into a better job or if they want to find and access learning to improve their skills and qualifications.
For more information call 0845 8 502 502 or visit a Careers Scotland centre.
Alternatively, Careers Scotland Advisers are linked to secondary schools and specialist units across Scotland. Young people and their parents and carers can find out how to meet with a member of the careers team through their school.
