Looked after children

Scottish Throughcare and Aftercare Forum

The Scottish Throughcare and Aftercare Forum was established in 1998 as a national body to represent the interests of young people leaving care and those who support them. The Forum has been actively involved in influencing and taking forward a range of policy and practice developments.

The Forum aims to:

  • prevent young people experiencing poverty, disadvantage and exclusion by improving support when leaving care
  • promote good practice in every aspect of throughcare and aftercare support for young people
  • promote opportunities for networking between those who are involved or have an interest in supporting young people who are leaving care
  • ensure that the best interests of young people leaving care are represented in the development of national and local policies
  • ensure that the views of young people leaving care and those who support them are reflected within the Forum
  • be representative of the geographical areas of Scotland, the voluntary, statutory and independent sectors, and the various settings which are relevant to young people leaving care, such as education, training, employment and health.
