Writer's Craft - Read to write: Write to read

The writer's craft looks for pupils to develop an understanding and appreciation of the tools writers use in their work.

Pupils are asked to continue in the tone and style of a piece of writing whilst looking at plot, genre, characterisation, pace and other elements of the writer's craft.

Although the writer's craft is embedded in all levels of English language, we are particularly looking at helping to develop a resource for level D and above.

In this section you will find a number of videos from a variety of writers, talking about their craft of writing. The videos are divided into six sections:

• A writer's typical day
• The importance of research in writing
• Coping with the 'blank page'
• Tips for teenage writers
• Authors talking about writing for teenagers and how to develop writing ideas
• Authors talking about their latest books

Further author videos will be added in the coming months. These will deal with more specific areas of the writer's craft including:

• characterisation
• developing the plot
• genre writing.
