This graphic novels resource has been created to illustrate the extent to which graphic novels can engage readers and how they can be used to encourage literacy.

Graphic novels across the curriculum

The showcase resource highlights how graphic novels can be used throughought the curriculum.

This section is based on the work of Mel Gibson, a lecturer in Childhood Studies at the University of Northumbria. She lectures in various areas concerning literacy and specialises in graphic novels. 

Additional features include:

  • research tips for starting a collection of graphic novels
  • a practical example detailing the introduction of graphic novels at James Hamilton Academy
  • a helpful list of recommended titles for schools
  • practical ideas for use with pupils
  • further reading material and links to a host of useful websites.
