In January 2009 Learning and Teaching Scotland launched the Home/Hame poetry competition to coincide with the Year of Homecoming. Entries were invited from young people aged 5 – 18, in Scots or English, to explore the notion of home.
The response was overwhelming with almost 6,000 entries received from across the length and breadth of Scotland.
We are now delighted to announce the winners.
Thank you to all of the schools who submitted such a high standard of entries to the competition. The judges had an extremely difficult task!
The winning poems have been published in an anthology entitled ‘Hame’ with a foreword by acclaimed author Jackie Kay. The book was launched at The Mitchell Theatre, Glasgow, on the 26th August 2009 where the winners joined Jackie to celebrate their writing.
A copy of the book has been sent to every primary and secondary school in Scotland and is also available to borrow from the Scottish Poetry Library.
You can also download a PDF version of the anthology.
You can watch video footage of some of the winning poets reading their work.
