This series of learning materials is built around the idea of being literate in finding, selecting and evaluating the information that is needed not only by students doing research or investigations, but also by everybody who is part of a generation that believes in lifelong learning. This unit looks at what we do with all this information and how we communicate it to others through writing or speech.
Your child will need to be more than just a good information detective. Becoming a good communicator is vital if that information is going to be of benefit to them both in school and in their lives outside. A good communicator needs to be able to read, write, speak and listen effectively.
This unit looks at the difference between written and spoken communication. It will help your child to consider the audience that they will be communicating to, the form in which they should present something, and the function (what they want to achieve) of the communication.
There is also an opportunity for students to find out about and practise different styles of writing.
