Video Interaction Guidance

Video Interaction Guidance (VIG) provides an effective way of working with people to improve positive interaction and communication. This is achieved through the review of video clips of successful communication scenarios.

Dundee Education Department has pioneered the application of VIG in schools. The Dundee Educational Psychology Service has provided training for staff and delivered short courses with follow up coaching in the city.

Examples of the successful use of VIG in early years centres and primary and secondary schools in Dundee are detailed in the PDF file below.

National Priorities

VIG holds particular relevance to the national priorities of:

  • Framework for learning: to support and develop the skills of teachers and the self discipline of pupils and to enhance school environments so that they are conducive to teaching and learning.
  • Inclusion and Equality: to promote equality and help every pupil benefit from education with particular regard paid to pupils with disabilities and special educational needs and to Gaelic and other lesser used languages.

Video Interaction Guidance is widely applicable and flexible

Video interaction guidance is a widely applicable approach. Communication is found throughout daily life whatever the activity. In addition, change for the better or the desire for personal and professional development, is always with us. VIG can therefore be found in use from pre-school to secondary school across all settings.
