Supporting Children's Learning: Code of Practice
The Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004 ('the Act') introduces a new framework for providing for children and young people who require some additional help with their learning. The Act aims to ensure that all children and young people are provided with the necessary support to help them work towards achieving their full potential. It also promotes collaborative working among all those supporting children and young people. This code explains the new duties on education authorities and other agencies to support children's and young people's learning. It provides guidance on the Act's provisions as well as on the supporting framework of secondary legislation. Education authorities and appropriate agencies, such as NHS Boards and social work services, are under a duty to have regard to the code when carrying out their functions under the Act.
Additional Support for Learning Act Regulations
Additional Support for Learning Act regulations are now available to view and print at the website of the Office of Public Sector Information. These could then be usefully inserted in the 'Regulations' section of the Code of Practice. Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004: Report of the Consultation on the Draft Code of Practice, Associated Policy Papers and Draft Regulations
This document reports on the consultation exercise held between November 2004 and February 2005 on a draft code of practice, policy papers and associated draft regulations to support the implementation of the Education (Additional Support for Learning) (Scotland) Act 2004. It also contains a report (see Annex A) on responses received to an earlier consultation exercise, held between 11 October and 31 December 2004, on draft regulations on the appointment of President, conveners and panel members for the Additional Support Needs Tribunals for Scotland.
