Glossary of terms relating to mainstream and specialist educational provision

Following one of the recommendations from the Scottish Council for Research in Education (SCRE) Centre report into the effects of mainstreaming, the Scottish Executive has produced this glossary of terms relating to mainstream and specialist educational provision.

Local authorities and grant-aided and independent schools are requested to have regard to this glossary when collecting data on their pupil population. This will help to ensure uniform information is gathered which will be used to inform policy development in this area.
