David Fleming, Headteacher of Dalry Primary School, considers his school to be exceptionally lucky to have attracted pupils from non-English-language-speaking countries.
'If I asked any teacher in Scotland, 'How would you like to be a lucky school and win some new, highly motivated pupils with good attendance, great behaviour and a hunger to learn?', they would be queuing up to meet them!'
Initially many of these children are not confident in using the English language but, given time, they and their families can make an amazing contribution to any school.
'Here in Dalry Primary in Edinburgh we are one of those lucky schools, as we have attracted lots and lots of children new to Scotland. In fact, we think we are the luckiest school in Scotland and we are the luckiest teachers because we have taken in lots of bairns that fit the above description!'
