As part of Dornoch Academy’s celebration of Highland Year of Culture 2007, we are implementing a project in which ICT is being used to create an interdisciplinary project.
The departments involved have adopted a project-based approach to integration, and are working together under the Eco Schools banner. Through the project, the four capacities of A Curriculum for Excellence are embedding ICT into the curriculum.
The departments involved in the project are Physics, PE, Art, Music, Modern Languages, Chemistry, Biology, History and Geography. The group agreed to approach the project with an open mind and decided to focus on a project that would stimulate the students and act as a motivating part of the curriculum.
The project is for all S1 and is the first attempt the school has had at an ACE project. The table below shows the individual departments and the software they have used.
Golf Project
| Subject | Software/Hardware |
|---|---|
| Art | Seriff |
| Physics | Excel |
| Geography | Microsoft Word, Multimap.com, Digital Photos |
| PE | Websites |
| History | Microsoft Word |
| Music | Sibelius |
| Modern Languages | Podcast |
| Biology | On line guides |
| Chemistry | Microsoft Word |
A brief description of what each department hopes to achieve is provided below:
Physics
The aim is to study different projectiles using the angles of different golf clubs. The results will be collated and then used to produce charts.
Art
Intention to use Serif to create logos, use of ICT in research and production of design.
Geography
The opportunity to develop skills in drawing and using maps and images. It can also use real world contexts for the use, application and understanding of numbers.
Biology
Ornithology a study of the local environment using on-line guides to explore, investigate and record.
Music
A piece of music will be created using Sibelius.
Chemistry
Researching elements used in golf club manufacture and writing a detailed report on materials used. (Graphite, steel, aluminium, and titanium.)
Physical Education
Golf as part of the curriculum. Individual identification of areas that could be developed and compile a report on MS word to illustrate development needs.
