This pupil led workshop was introduced by the headteacher and outlined a new idea developed by the P7 teacher. With the aim of encouraging the senior class to take ownership for organising an activity within the school where the learning takes place in a real situation and where the pupils accept responsibility for organising the weekly assembly.
This ‘real’ activity motivated the pupils to take part and provide a valuable learning experience for the rest of the school. The main theme was citizenship, and the process enabled the school to focus as a whole on the key messages; provide feedback to others who are trying to make a difference for themselves and for their school; highlight the positive impact on what is happening in the school. The headteacher was invited to speak at the assemblies.
The outcomes included confidence, success, effectiveness, taking responsibility – yes, it hit all the ACfE buttons!
