This collection of case studies from Scottish schools explores the topic of enterprise education and what it means to be enterprising in the widest sense of the word. Scotland already benefits from a dynamic enterprising schools culture based upon clear educational values. The 11 case studies presented in this resource are therefore a reflection of accepted practice in different parts of the country and in different types of school.
Enterprise education has become a top priority at government level in Scotland with ministerial support for the view that the future of Scotland's economy is likely to depend more than ever before on inventiveness, enterprise skills and a renewed emphasis on education industry links. However, the needs and aspirations of the learner remain a central concern in these case studies. Likewise, it is important that the school considers the values which underpin its enterprising activities and makes clear its vision. The case studies show that, far from distorting school climate and ethos, enterprise education is actually a powerful force for climate setting and ethos development.
