Caroline: Now last day we talked about Buddy and what his character was like and today we're going to do a little bit more character work on Buddy. What have we learned about him. Darren? Darren: He's a thief. Caroline: Chapter one, Buddy stole from the purse. OK, and that's a really important thing. Good. What else do we know about him? Natalie? Natalie: He's very superstitious. Caroline: He's very superstitious, now that is really important for today's lesson.
Narrator: After some quick revision of plot and character, Caroline hands over to Kenny who explains on the whiteboard how to use the scenario. Kenny: But today we're going to work without books and what we're going to do is we're going to use an ICT resource called the Buddy scenario. So you're going to be a reporter in this scenario and it's all in relation to what happens in the novel.
Narrator: The reporters begin the adventure. Their first investigation is about superstition. To earn a reward, they have to complete a word ordering exercise based on superstitions.
Teacher working with pupil
Narrator: When they've earned enough money, they can travel to Buddy's house. Kenny: Click on the area. Pupil: Yeah. Kenny: And the departure. Just click on it, yeah.
Narrator: The exercise they have to do here is to complete a passage about Buddy by adding in the correct adjectives. Kenny: There's all the possible ones it can go in and you have to put them in the correct place. Caroline: His father is his, is something and his mother finds it very hard to cope, so his father is something. What do you think?
Pupil A: Unemployed. Caroline: Yeah, unemployed, well done. So stick unemployed in there. Kenny: E M P L O Y E D. Good. Now Julius is very, now is he keen? Yeah, a boy, yeah he would be keen, wouldn't he?
Narrator: One boy has discovered a useful tool. Pupil B: If you click on that, it gives you a clue and it tells you what it could be. Caroline: You've put local, he adopts a local accent and he does.
