Learning aims: Videoconferencing in the Advanced Higher French class

Learning aims

The content of the lessons delivered during the session cover most areas of the curriculum: speaking, reading and grammar. With the aid of the visual presenter and its zoom facility it is possible to cover course work from the class textbook as Ms Wilson can draw the students’ attention to sections of a passage.

She can review prepared notes with them and also write explanatory notes that they can then copy down. However, there is a special emphasis on speaking as both the class teacher and Ms Wilson are working with small groups on a Monday.

This becomes more important in the third term when they are preparing students for their external speaking test – a twenty-minute conversation with a visiting examiner from the Scottish Qualifications Authority. The ability to work with individual pupils through videoconference is invaluable here. Ms Wilson is also able to help one student prepare for a university interview, something which would have been difficult to do in the past.
