Preparation: Video analysis of a basketball lesson

Teacher preparation

Before the lesson begins the following preparations are made:

• The software is installed on the laptop
• Staff are familiarised with how to set up the hardware and operate the software
• A video clip of a model performer's set shot is captured and saved
• A simple set of pupil-friendly instructions are made up and laminated. This acts as a prompt, backing up the teacher's explanation, and is a reminder to the pupils as they work through the task
• An observation schedule for the set shot is created and photocopied for each pupil.    

What you need

For this lesson you will need:

• a digital video camera with a DV out/firewire connection
• a firewire cable
• a laptop with a firewire port and pre-loaded with Dart Trainer software
• a digital projector (optional)
