  • In October 2005 an interim report by HMIE highlighted the importance of ICT skills development as an important component in their future core and life skills. The report The Integration of Information and Communications Technology in Scottish Schools looks at the current impact of ICT on learning and teaching and identifies ways in which schools are using ICT to enhance the learning experience. The report addresses all four capacities, highlighting the role ICT plays in achieving the purposes and principles for the whole curriculum.

  •  In 1999 the Scottish Executive commissioned a study of the impact of information and communications technology (ICT) in Scottish schools. The second survey was carried out two years later and a third in 2004. The third study 'The Impact of ICT in Scottish Schools Phase 3: The Case Studies' provides evidence of how ICT has become part of the learning experience in and out of school. They identified five schools in which to carry out these case studie and the projects covered a number of curricular areas and technologies such as websites, weblogs, laptops, mobile phones, word processing, digital video and cameras.

  • The Becta Review 2006 assesses the progress of ICT in education using evidence from recent surveys and research studies. It looks at the developments of infrastructures, the educational content provided in schools, management and leadership issues, learning and teaching, progress, issues and challenges of ICT in school.

  • Becta’s: Emerging Technologies for Learning highlights the importance of emerging technologies in education in relation to our knowledge-based economy and the need for the ability to ‘find, process, assess and analyse information’. It states that 'technology is already increasing creative and collaborative activities across the curriculum'.

  • ImpaCT 2 is one of a number of projects commissioned by DfES and managed by Becta to evaluate the use of ICT in schools. Findings from this research study found evidence of 'a positive relationship between ICT use and educational attainment' and noted that 'it is possible on the basis of these findings to estimate that high ICT use . . . in English can help to raise performance'.

  • Nesta Futurelab's Literature Review in creativity, new technologies and learning aims to provide 'a basis for communication between the educational research community and the commercial sector on the subject of the teaching and learning of creativity with ICT'.
