New initiatives such as computer games in class are approaches that need informed support, particularly from parents. The class teacher demonstrates a clear awareness of this and she discusses what her concerns were and how she informed parents of her aims in order to gain consent and support for her the Guitar Hero project.
The class teacher talks about how Guitar Hero allowed her and the class to collaborate in order to create a story that would enable learning in many curricular areas to be connected. This cross-curricular approach linked by the Guitar Hero theme has also resonated with the children. We hear them talking about the fact that they liked learning this way because everything was linked and that this helped them make sense of their learning and helped them enjoy their learning much more.
In this clip the place and value of games as learning tools in classrooms is discussed from the perspective of the local authority ICT office, the class teacher and the children. The professional view is very much one of being to new ideas and of the relevance and currency of games technologies with learners from a digital client group. The children on the other hand find it appealing to see the world of school and the world outside school being brought together by moves such as bringing games in to classrooms.
