Neverwinter Nights

The participating authorities in this pilot are Dundee City Council and Fife Council.

Neverwinter Nights is an online multi-player game that allows the player to enter a rich fantasy world that can be shared with other people. In addition this game comes with a toolset that allows the player to design their own version of the game.

Although the version normally available in shops is Neverwinter Nights 2, we sourced a number of Neverwinter Nights 1 disks that we could give to schools. These were a minimal cost and did not make the demands on school computers that the newer version does.

Dr Judy Robertson from Herriot-Watt University has a research interest in this game. Her main focus is on how this game and games like it can help develop and extend children’s literacy skills. Here we see her explaining what Neverwinter Nights is and how she believes this game can impact on teaching and learning.

We also see teachers from Dundee offering their initial impressions of the resource and how they may see it impacting on teaching and learning in their context.
