  • Green Exercise - reconnecting people and outdoor places (11 - 12 October 2007)

    Designed to increase the amount of physical activity taken by individuals, green exercise is recognised as one of the most beneficial and cost-effective ways of increasing physical and mental health.

  • Suicide Information, Research and Evidence Network (SIREN) Conference (25 September 2007)

    Affecting all age groups and communities in our society, this conference is for everyone - to learn how we can use 'what we know' to prevent suicides in Scotland.

  • Mental health conference - intercultural perpectives in mental health (3 September 2007)
    Mental distress is recognised worldwide. This conference will critically explore the relationship between cultural and mental health within the BME communities (in the UK).

  • Towards a Smokefree Society (10 - 11 September 2007)

    This conference will present new research evidence and bring together researchers, policy makers and practitioners with the overall purpose of mobilising further effective action on smokefree legislation.

This is just a selection of the latest stories added to our news page:

  • New figures on school meals published - a statistical publication on 'School Meals in Scotland 2007'. It provides the results of the latest annual survey of school meals.
  • Free school meals for all in areas of deprivation - government plans to provide free school meals for pupils living in Scotland's most deprived areas.
  • Fewer kids smoking and drinking - the number of pupils who drink and smoke has fallen in the last two years, new figures have shown.

Register online for this year's Scottish Learning Festival, which will be held on Wednesday 19 and Thursday 20 September at the SECC in Glasgow.
