Access to national content
Access to resources
In order to help users distinguish between resources with different access arrangements, we have categorised these resources under four headings:
- Glow resources (access to these requires a Glow log-in)
- National content (access from educational establishment only)
- Resources to purchase
- Other resources (open-access, resources freely available to all users)
Glow resources
- Glow resources can be accessed from any computer, at a school/centre or at home.
- You need a Glow user name and password to access these resources.
- It is also necessary for your local authority to have signed up for Shibboleth.
If you are a Glow user and have difficulty accessing these resources, please seek further information from your local authority key contact (listed in our Glow in your area section).
National content
These resources have been licensed for use by staff and pupils at all local authority schools in Scotland.
Access is by IP address. This means that:
- you do not have to use your Glow user name and password to view or use these resources
- you can only access these resources from a computer at your school or educational establishment.

Resources to purchase
Glow Showcase is a catalogue of commercial software products, searchable by curriculum area, keyword and supplier.
Other resources
Don’t forget that there are many other educational resources which are freely available to all internet users, eg the Learning Resources collection, which is part of the Learning and Teaching Scotland Online Service.
