Following a successful pilot held in four schools before Christmas, Glow is now live in South Ayrshire.
Over a period of three weeks the Glow Mentors have cascaded Glow training to every school in the authority. The sixteen mentors visited a total of fifty-eight schools, carrying out an impressive hundred and twenty-three training sessions.
The ninety-minute twilight sessions focused on the basics of getting into Glow and its general structure and terminology. Teachers have also been made aware of the potential of Glow to improve learning and teaching and communication. In addition, they have been shown how to access resources and how to participate in existing groups by taking part in news, discussions and Glow Meet sessions.
The initiative has been an overwhelming success with just under 1400 staff responding to the survey which was presented at the end of each twilight session. 90% of staff were either ‘Fully’ or ‘Mostly’ in agreement that the session had stimulated their interest in using Glow.
Further developments are planned for session 2009/10 including a 'Building Windmills' session for Head Teachers, developing use of Glow to encourage effective communication and collaboration at all levels and, in particular, developing local case studies and practice around effective use of Glow in the classroom.
