Dumfries and Galloway Council have now completed their major push on Glow within their schools, although some Secondary schools have still to embrace Glow. All of their primary schools and most secondary schools are now using Glow Mail as their mail client.
A variety of Glow CPD courses have been delivered over the last two years and they are now engaging directly with schools on specific projects of their choosing. This new focus has been very successful and has increased the use of Glow in participating schools, encouraging more schools to request this type of support.
This year they are planning to deliver CPD courses in Glow Learn as well as more general Glow courses to centrally based staff. In addition, two schools will be involved in Co-Create projects, Hightae Primary with Imaginate and Dumfries High School with YDance.
The authority is now engaging with partner agencies and ran a Glow Training course for our community police officers in February 2010. Children in three primary schools interviewed their community police officers via Glow Meet. This provoked comments of ‘Wow’ and ‘Cool’ from both sides! This was the natural progression from the collaboration between Schools Services and the Police in the production of the Police Guide to Curriculum for Excellence, which was published in October 2009.
