This Gaelic Spellchecker was first developed for Microsoft Word 2003 on Windows. A new version of the spellchecker is now available for download from below.

If you would like to download the Gaelic Spellchecker, then please follow the instructions below.

To install this download:
  1. You may want to print the page to use as a reference when you are offline.
  2. Download the file from this page by using the link below and following the instructions in the dialog boxes.
  3. Double-click the 'Scots' program file on your hard disk to start the program.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the installation.

Instructions for Use, with Word 2003:

Use the proofing tools as you normally would. For example, to use the spellchecker in Word, do the following:
  1. Open up a Word document that contains Gaelic text.
  2. Select the Gaelic text you want to use the spell checker in.
  3. On the Tools menu, Language and Set Language.
  4. In the Mark selected text as list, select Gaelic (Scotland) and OK.
  5. Press F7 or click Spelling and Grammar on the Tools menu.

Instructions for Use, with Word 2007:

  1. Having installed the Spellchecker, and opened Word, you click the Office button (top left) and select Word Options. 
  2. Then you select Proofing and click the button Custom Dictionaries.
  3. Click the Browse button and look for Computer or My Computer, C:, Program Files, TELI, Gaelic (Scotland) Spellchecker and click the Open button.
  4. Select Gaelic (Scotland) where you see Dictionary Language and then click OK twice.
  5. If you have a new file open in Word, select Review followed by Set Language.   Select Gaelic (Scotland) and click OK.
  6. If you have a file open which contains text, you need to select all the text before clicking Review and Set Language.

 

To remove this download:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings and Control Panel.
  2. Add/Remove Programs.
  3. In the list of currently installed programs select Gaelic (Scotland) Spellchecker and Add/Remove.  If a dialog box appears, follow the instructions to remove the program.
  4. Yes/OK to confirm that you want to remove the program.

PLEASE NOTE:  Machines that use an earlier Gaelic spellchecker (SMO/Roy Wentworth) should remove it before installing this new version, as it may cause the machine to run slow.
