Financial Education Conference 2007 - Introduction

Bank Card 150

On 28 March 2007, at Airth Castle in Stirling, over 160 delegates were welcomed to the Conference by John Mulgrew, Chair of Learning and Teaching Scotland. John praised the partnership between the sectors of education and finance which had already had an impact in schools and which held great promise in delivering financial education to pupils the length and breadth of the country.

Jim Lally, Director of the Scottish Centre for Financial Education, outlined the position and direction of financial education in Scotland and the aim of the SCFE. ‘We believe that every young person should be given opportunities to develop financial capability as part of their general education. To make a significant impact we are encouraging every school to have a planned coherent programme of financial education.’

Jim expects this conference will be a major step in encouraging progress towards achieving that goal.
