Bridge to employment: Partnership

The 'Bridge to Employment' (BTE) is an initiative devised by Johnson & Johnson. The initiative provides a supported pathway to help close the gap in unemployment for young people and build partnerships between businesses, schools and college education, the community and parents.

Improving the school environment

Craighead Primary School pupils work together and with local businesses and other organisations to improve their environment, including planting a garden, creating a wormery and installing a wind turbine.

Hopetoun Garden Centre helped children at Ladywell Nursery to grow their own plants so they could learn about the environment and healthy eating.

Using what you learn in the real world

Police officers and staff from the Crash Investigation Unit demonstrate the application of maths and physics to students at a local College in a 'real world' context. The students participate by using formulas that they learn in class to solve problems and gather data from a recreated accident scene. Police staff, teaching staff and pupils describe why learning through this partnership is effective and enjoyable.

Alva Primary School and environmental organsations worked together to rear trout, which were released in the burn that runs through the school grounds.
