  • Now We Are 50: Key findings from the National Child Development Survey
    This report is one of a series of National Child Development Study reports, charting the progress of a groupd of individuals born in 1958. This report summarises the findings from the last 50 years of reports, and shows how it has fed into policy making and key changes, particularly in education.

  • National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics – Evaluation
    A report on the evaluation of the National Centre for Excellence in the Teaching of Mathematics (NCETM). The NCETM is part of the government's Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programme. It aims to improve the teaching of mathematics.

  • Media and Young Children's Learning
    This article summarises relevant research on the impact of early media exposure on the cognitive development and educational achievement of children. One focus of the article is the impact of television viewing on children under two. There are suggestions for maximizing the positive effects and minimizing the negative effects of media.

  • Media and Children's Aggression, Fear and Altruism
    An article which reviews the research evidence on how exposure to screen media affects children's wellbeing and development. The author highlights evidence relating to the link between media and children's emotions, which suggests that children can learn about different emotions by watching the emotional experiences of media characters.

  • Media and Attention, Cognition and School Achievement
    An article which reviews the available research relating to the links between different types of electronic media and the cognitive skills of school age children and adolescents. The authors highlight that one key finding of most studies to date is that the content delivered by electronic media is far more influential that the media themselves.

  • Mathematics - Understanding the Score (London)
    A mathematics report covering 192 schools in England. It discusses the rising standards in national tests and examinations. The report also discusses issues and barriers to improving mathematics learning and characteristics of good practice as well as key findings and recommendations. This report is based principally on evidence from inspections of mathematics between April 2005 and December 2007.

  • National Literacy Trust
    A research paper which collates evidence including the 1958 National Child Development Study and 1970 British Cohort Study to highlight how literacy skills play an important role in employability and wages as well as perception of education.

  • Learning to Teach in post-devolution UK
    A report which discusses a comparison study into early teacher training standards and practices throughout the UK.

  • Learning Outside the Classroom – How Far Should You Go?
    This report explores the value of learning outside the classroom. There are details about key findings, recommendations, strengths and weaknesses in practice and case study examples. The report covers 12 primary, 10 secondary and one special school. It also covers one pupil referral unit and three colleges across England.

  • Leadership in the 21st Century: The New Visionary Administrator
    This report discusses the findings of a survey conducted on behalf of Project Tommorrow, an American non-profit organisation which aims to promote leadership and innovation in education. This survey is the latest in a series for the organisation's 'Speak Up' initiative which has gathered information from over one million students relating to their views on technology, education and future expectations.
