The following are research reports relating to enterprise in education. You can read and review the findings, and consider putting into practice any relevant recommendations. You can view them online or download them for future reference.
Trends in Media Use A journal article which explores recent trends in media use among young people in the United States, by considering evidence from a range of large scale surveys of young people. These surveys have involved children and young people from birth to the age of 18, and have included all of the different types of media now available to young people, such as television, audio media, video games, computers and hand held internet devices.
The social and personal benefits of learning: A summary of key research findings A report exploring the impact which education and social capital formation can have throughout a person's life in terms of well-being, family dynamics and community cohesion. In particular, the report focuses on the effect of education on health, crime, parenting and citizenship.
The Impact of Two Professional Development Interventions on Early Reading Instruction and Achievement A report which show how two professional development interventions in the United States affect teachers’ literacy-related knowledge and students’ literacy achievement. The evaluation focused on six urban school districts that serve a substantial number of students whose first language is not English, and who come from low income backgrounds.
The Impact of Programme-Led Apprenticeships This report investigates the success of Programme-Led Apprenticeships in preparing students for Modern Apprenticeships. It looks at their uptake since they began in 2003 and whether they are considered to be effective in their approach.
The Future of Further Education – An Opinion Survey A research report which describes a study investigating the opinions of the further education sector workforce in relation to the future direction of the sector. The research involved a survey of 1,268 further education sector workers, who included lecturers, managers and senior managers.
The deployment, training and development of the wider school workforce This report assesses the effectiveness of the reforms to the school workforce which began to be introduced in 2003. Schools began to recruit and deploy a wider range of staff in order to meet the national agreement featured in the reforms but failed to gather sufficient evidence on the impact of new staff.
Technical Education – A Portrait of Current Practice in Scottish Schools This report is one in a series of portraits by HMIE, illustrating current practice in key aspects of the Scottish curriculum. It explores how technical education promotes learners’ personal achievements and links to illustrations of good practice.
Teachers’ TV – Education Analysis Report This is a report on the performance and impact of the Teachers' TV Channel from an educational perspective. Teachers TV was launched in February 2005 and the report focuses on its performance in its third year. There are five sections in the report: Educational objectives; Performance of TTV; the wider educational context; TTV as a resource for continuing professional development and conclusions and recommendations.
