The Review of Education for Work and Enterprise was established in September 2001 under the chairmanship of Nicol Stephen, then Deputy Minister for Education and Young People.

The aim was 'to assess the effectiveness of Education for Work and Enterprise in schools, in preparing young people for the world of work and encouraging an enterprising culture in later life; and to examine the scope to improve Education for Work and Enterprise in fully supporting Scotland’s priorities for education, and its economic success.'

The Group met on nine occasions between September 2001 and September 2002. They identified challenges facing the education and business sectors. This report set out a response to these challenges and was created for the consideration of Scottish Ministers.

The belief was that when these recommendations were put in place, they would enable young people to develop positive and enterprising attitudes.

The recommendations cover the following areas:

  • Opportunities for Young People
  • The Business Community’s Commitment
  • National Developments
  • Opportunities for Teachers
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
