Health for All Children 4: guidance on implementation in Scotland

Independent Evaluation of 'Starting Well' Final Report
Report on Phase One of 'Starting Well', the Scottish Executive-funded, national health demonstration project for child health. 'Starting Well' was based on the belief that early years interventions can help to break the cycle of poverty that limits the opportunities available to children born into the most disadvantaged circumstances.


National Programme for Improving Mental Health and Well-Being
This is an action plan that sets out the main aims and areas of activity for national work and provides a suggested outline for local areas to follow. Early years is one of the action plan's main areas. It sets the objective to improve infant mental health and to integrate mental health in all work on early years. The plan highlights a number of key areas for action, including: antenatal care; parenting; early intervention for postnatal depression; home visits; and community-led family centres.


Nutritional guidance for early years
This Scottish Executive guidance is for providers of childcare for children aged 1-5 years who provide food (including snacks) and/or drinks. It will apply to a wide range of providers, including local authority nurseries, private nurseries, playgroups, childminders, toddler groups, crèches, school meal services and family centres

'Let's Make Scotland More Active' is a strategy whose aim is to ensure that people in Scotland enjoy the benefits of having a physically active life. It suggests that this needs changes in both policy and culture.
