Storybook CD
Storybook CD was primarily developed to accompany the Storybook TV video which was made in association with the Scottish Arts Council National Lottery Fund in 1999.
The video features a 'Jackanory' scenario where leading children's authors Mairi Hedderwick, Debi Gliori, Scoular Anderson and Frank Rodgers read their own stories, accompanied by illustrations from the storybooks.
Storybook CD is centred on the authors from Storybook TV and provides a Word Bank and related Activities for each of the stories. The Word Bank contains key words from each of the stories, enabling children to build up their vocabulary and construct sentences on screen by choosing words from a selection.
The Activities section reinforces learned words in a variety of practical exercises and develops core skills such as problem solving, reading, counting and matching. There are different levels from easy to hard with a print facility to allow children to keep their own work.
The Activities for pre-school and primary 1 children (Scottish 5-14 national guidelines, Level A and National Curriculum, Key Stage 1) are presented in a fun and motivating context for learning.
Children are introduced to basic ICT skills in mouse control, for instance dragging and dropping pieces to make a jigsaw of The Bunk Bed Bus or matching paint pots to their appropriate coloured shelves and then labelling them as part of the Oh No, Peedie Peebles story.
