Education authorities and schools should have in place procedures to ensure that all teachers and other staff, where appropriate (such as librarians, ICT support staff, administrative and maintenance staff), are aware of authority policies and procedures and accept their responsibilities. This covers permanent, temporary and supply staff.
This will require staff to undertake initial training to ensure their understanding of the authority's position, and agreement to abide by its Acceptable Use Policy, and to implement its policies and procedures.
The dynamic nature of electronic communication means that there will need to be regular reviews of safety policies and procedures, and provision for updating the knowledge of staff about internet safety practice at intervals during their employment. One form of such updating might be further staff development about effective internet use in school.
To reflect this, Continuing Professional Development policy statements should include appropriate references to ensure that staff awareness of internet safety issues is up to date.
