Mace debating format

The Mace Format is the easiest format to organise and understand. In Competitive Debating the Summary Speeches (5 and 6) are performed by one of the Main Speakers.

In Classroom Debating, it makes more sense to include three speakers on each side so as to involve more pupils in the debate.

There should be a Floor Debate between the second Opposition Speaker’s (4) speech and the Opposition Summary Speaker’s (5) Speech.

The Proposition Summary Speaker (6) speaks last as this allows both teams an equal chance to rebut opposing arguments.
