Curriculum for Excellence

Senior manager thinking group reports

Teachers round a table having a discussion

The 2007 OECD report 'Quality and Equity in Schooling in Scotland' expressed the view that 'curriculum reform has to come from schools themselves rather than waiting for central direction.'

To support schools and centres in taking their own steps towards innovation, Learning and Teaching Scotland brought together informal Thinking Groups of headteachers and senior managers from early years, primary and secondary across Scotland from January to May 2008. A wide range of schools was represented including city, rural and island establishments. The reports below provide a summary of the ideas and the description of practice that emerged from these discussions.
