In 2004 the Curriculum Review Group made a commitment to update, simplify and prioritise the curriculum. These draft experiences and outcomes in literacy and Gàidhlig are the fulfilment of that promise.
This paper is for practitioners in all sectors of education and should be read alongside the cover paper for the draft experiences and outcomes in literacy and English. The literacy experiences and outcomes apply to all aspects of learning and across all curriculum areas. All practitioners have a responsibility to develop, reinforce and extend the skills identified.
The cover paper explains some of the thinking behind the draft experiences and outcomes in literacy and Gàidhlig. It is intended to support discussion by practitioners in all educational settings and local authorities. It provides questions to support professional reflection and engagement. It should be read alongside Building the Curriculum 1.
The literacy and Gàidhlig framework promotes critical and creative thinking as well as competence in listening, talking, reading and writing. In addition, the draft experiences and outcomes allow for the development of a range of personal, interpersonal and teamworking skills which are so important in life and in the world of work.
Broad descriptions of the range of learning opportunities which will contribute to knowledge and appreciation of Gàidhlig literature and culture and to the development of literacy are contained within the overarching statements which precede the experiences and outcomes.
