In 2004 the Curriculum Review Group made a commitment to update, simplify and prioritise the curriculum. These draft experiences and outcomes in classical languages are the fulfilment of that promise.
This paper explains some of the thinking behind the draft experiences and outcomes for classical languages. It is intended to support discussion in schools, centres and local authorities. It provides questions to support professional reflection and engagement. The draft experiences and outcomes in classical languages and those in classical studies straddle both the languages and social studies frameworks. Individually and together they provide opportunities for the development of interesting and relevant coursework.
The experiences and outcomes in classical languages offer lifelong learning opportunities for students of all ages as learning about the culture around us today, or the social and political dimensions of contemporary society, is enhanced by an awareness of the contributions made by Roman or classical Greek civilisations.
