Ministers have made a commitment to reform, simplify and prioritise the curriculum, building on best practice and retaining much of what is good in the Scottish system.
These pages represent the first opportunity to examine the draft experiences and outcomes within the Curriculum for Excellence. There will be many other opportunities as draft experiences and outcomes in other curriculum areas are developed.
Curriculum for Excellence provides a framework within which excellent learning and teaching can take place - it is an integral part of the schools’ improvement agenda. The values, purposes and principles that lie at the heart of Curriculum for Excellence have resonated well with all who have reflected on them: teachers, education authority staff, employers, young people, parents, managers and college staff.
Many schools have indicated that they are now ready to see more detail, which is what the accompanying draft outcomes and experiences provide. They offer a fresh opportunity to consider how staff, schools and authorities can focus on further improvements to their learning and teaching approaches.
