Curriculum for Excellence

Turning the experiences and outcomes into action

Gill Robinson presenting at a Curriculum for Excellence conference

Introduction

Following the launch of the experiences and outcomes, Learning and Teaching Scotland and the Scottish Government ran a series of nationwide events to offer support for the next stage of implementation of Curriculum for Excellence.

We have the keynote presentation and the three workshops which will be useful to those with responsibilities for working with groups of staff in education authorities, schools, pre-school centres and representatives from partner organisations.

The materials can provide the groundwork for further discussion within educational establishments, for example during in-service days.

The experiences and outcomes keynote

This PowerPoint presentation outlines the context for the experiences and outcomes including:

  • How have they been developed and refined from the drafts?
  • What is their role within the curriculum as a whole?
  • What support will be available for teachers to work with them?

Moving into the new curriculum: short task

This workshop is a useful tool to get you started as it considers specific aspects of the principles and practice sections and the experiences and outcomes. There is also the opportunity to discuss how this may lead and support staff in engaging with the new curriculum.

Workshops

Three highly practical workshops have been devised to introduce you to the following areas:

  • Responsibility of all: health and wellbeing, literacy and numeracy

    • This workshop will provide opportunities for participants to discuss the implications for all members of the education community in meeting this joint responsibility.
  • Ensuring progression

    • This workshop will provide opportunities for participants to explore how progression is embedded within the experiences and outcomes and consider the implications for planning and recognizing progression.
  • Building your curriculum

    • This workshop will provide opportunities for participants to consider curriculum planning. It will focus on the challenges and implications of providing a broad general education from pre-school to the end of S3 across all curriculum areas.
