
After research in chemistry, Gill taught in secondary school, college and university. She subsequently became Director of the East of Scotland Consortium of the Scottish Wider Access Programme, which aimed to widen access to higher education for adult returners. In 1992 she joined HM Inspectorate, where she has held a number of posts, becoming Chief Inspector on 29 September 2000. She was seconded to the Scottish Executive Education Department in 2004, where she was Head of Curriculum, Qualifications and Assessment, and Programme Director for Curriculum for Excellence. She is currently seconded from HMIE to work with LTS on Curriculum for Excellence.

Pam’s role includes a particular responsibility for supporting education authorities’ Quality Improvement teams. She is seconded from her post as Education Development Manager (EDM) with West Lothian Council, where she has responsibility for the Education Officer team, the support and improvement of schools, curriculum development, the ICT Support and Development team and the CPD unit.
She has taught in West Lothian and West Dunbartonshire, was Depute Headteacher at Kinneil Primary School in Bo’ness and was the first Headteacher of Springfield Primary School in Linlithgow. She joined the Advisory Service of Lothian Region in 1990 and became EDM for West Lothian Council in 1996. She also works as an Associate Assessor with HMIE on INEA inspections.

May Sweeney is the National Co-ordinator for Curriculum for Excellence, based in Learning and Teaching Scotland. Seconded from Stirling Council, her most recent post was Headteacher of McLaren High School. From the beginning of her teaching career in 1975 at St Aidan’s High School, Wishaw, she has held a range of posts in North Lanarkshire and Stirling. In 1989 she was seconded to Strathclyde Regional Council as Staff Tutor in Guidance. May was involved in the Scottish Executive’s Excluded Young People’s Action Team in 1999. A member of Court at the University of Stirling since 2001, she has been involved in international study visits to Toronto District School Board and to Tokyo with International Educators to Japan as well as study visits to Australia and Ireland.
