  1. What makes for good learning?
  2. How should learning be planned - to make it better for pupils?
  3. How should school be organised in the future? (school days / weeks / learning spaces)
  4. How should tests and examinations be organised? Do we really need them?

Pupils at Westray Junior High School in the Orkney Islands made this eight-minute film to explain that involving them in making choices about how, where and when they learn will make their learning more memorable.

They use images and examples from their community life to illustrate the skills and capabilities they want to develop and highlight the responsibilities they would like to take on. They'd like to have a role in choosing staff, to offer feedback on lessons and to sit exams when they feel ready, as well as having a happy, safe and secure environment.

Children from South Lanarkshire's Robert Owen Memorial Primary School Nursery, Carmichael Primary School, Woodhead Primary School, Hamilton School for the Deaf and Glenlee Primary School were asked for their views on learning and teaching.

This DVD captures some of their thoughts and ideas and provides a perceptive glimpse of what an ideal school would be like through the eyes of a child.
