Schools and other establishments will want to discuss, design and test possible curriculum structures that reflect the features set out in 'Building the Curriculum 3' and which meet their local contexts and priorities.

These PowerPoint slides and workshop activities may be useful to curriculum planners and their partners.  They provide support for the process of designing curriculum structures that fulfil the purposes of the curriculum as a whole. The introductory presentation and initial workshops lead to more technical tasks.

Building your curriculum - curriculum planning

This presentation can be used in two parts: to set the national scene for curriculum planning and to introduce 'Building the Curriculum 3' and associated workshop activities.

Primary and early years workshop tasks

Secondary workshop tasks

Special schools workshop tasks

All these materials form important elements of the ‘Testing the Framework’ programme which provides an opportunity for staff from all education authorities, and a range of schools and partners, to work intensively together on the key features within 'Building the Curriculum 3'.

Technical tasks

After you have completed these workshop tasks why not begin technical tasks such as considering and deciding on key issues in designing curriculum structures?

Guiding your thinking
