CPD Scotland

Continuing professional development (CPD) is key to the development of the teaching profession. Providing timely and appropriate CPD activities boosts the esteem and professionalism of the teaching community and allows education to meet the challenges of the 21st century.

CPD Scotland

CPD Scotland is a SEED-sponsored project being delivered jointly by the National CPD Team and Learning and Teaching Scotland.

Who is it for?

It is aimed at all education practitioners in Scotland, but will also be of interest to student teachers, CPD co-ordinators, and local authorities.

As well as providing a range of CPD opportunities, it aims to take advantage of the Glow project, other online tools and the current uptake in social software for the collaboration and sharing of ideas, professional thinking and practice.

Glow

What are the tools?

CPD Scotland aims to:

  • provide up-to-date, relevant information on CPD in Scotland
  • provide a ‘one-stop shop’ for CPD
  • use the Glow tools for CPD, for example to:
    • establish CPD communities of practice online
    • provide online seminars and coaching sessions
    • develop and delivering online courses
    • deliver CPD news to the desktop
  • give CPD providers and educators additional tools to:
    • reflect on their needs
    • identify and rate CPD opportunities
    • maintain their CPD plans, records and portfolios
    • share their CPD journeys.

Phases of CPD Scotland

Phase 1 will establish the online presence of CPD Scotland, provide a central database of CPD opportunities and up-to-date information and news on CPD in Scotland.

Phase 2 will focus on using Glow tools to provide and enhance CPD to the education community.

In the future there will also be an online reflection tool to support personal reflection and identify CPD needs.
