There are a wide variety of resources available to support the teaching of a European Dimension. Some organisations provide speakers to talk to class groups or assemblies. The information below gives links to a number of organisations that provide a range of resources including official EU websites. There are also recommendations from teachers from all ages and stages of the Scottish curriculum.
European Commission Audio Visual Portal: Gives access to current news items and archive materials in a variety of audiovisual formats.
European Parliament Office: The best place to go for up-to-date maps and statistics published by the EU parliament. They also provide a speaker service for schools.
European Union environmental policies: This site is user friendly and has an interactive section where young people can join in the debates about the major issues, such as climate change.
Generation Europe: Order free European diaries from Generation Europe. Both Secondary and Primary diaries are available in English, French and German.
Global Gateway: Offers a wide range of recommended resources both for teaching about Europe and for making the links between education for citizenship and European issues.
LTS Modern Foreign Languages Environment (MFLE): This service provides resources, links, images and much more to support the language teacher in Scotland. There are also easy to access instructions on how to blog and how to organise a podcast for those schools involved in communicating with a European school.
My Europe: This site has a wealth of good ideas and resources. From the home page of the 'learning objects to teach European citizenship' has lesson plans, games, quizzes and other activities for use in the classroom. The new energy focuses on climate change issues in Europe and provides more lesson plans and information for debates in the classroom.
Teachernet: A good source of information and has useful links to other websites which provide free resources for schools across the UK.
