Things to think about

  • Our pupils can discuss their learning and progress in a meaningful way with adults and peers.
    This helps them to identify strengths and next steps in their learning.
  • Our pupils are confident and can ask for help from the appropriate person when they do not fully understand the work.
  • Our pupils have opportunities to develop the skills and capacities they need to become more effective in evaluating and directing their own learning.

Questions to ask

  • To what extent do our pupils and staff have opportunities to participate in a meaningful dialogue about their learning that allows them to identify their next steps?
  • To what extent are our pupils and staff supported to set their own learning goals?
  • To what extent do we respond to questions in a positive manner to help pupils and staff develop as confident individuals?
  • To what extent do our pupils and staff have opportunities to develop the skills and capacities they need to become more effective in evaluating and directing their own learning?
  • To what extent do pupils and staff make use of resources available within the wider community, including external agencies as appropriate to support them to meet identified next steps?
